Color Theory: Pink
- “That’s the way everyday goes
Every time we’ve no control
If the sky is pink and white
If the ground is black and yellow…”
From Pink + White of Frank Ocean’s most recent album Blonde.
Ocean’s most popular song offers insight on the relationship between man and nature. He clearly highlights the cause and effect mannerism among the two groups. The pink and white being beautiful nature and the black and yellow being manmade pollution.
- “PINK is a college girl’s must-shop destination for the cutest bras, panties, swim and loungewear!”
- Andy Warhol, most notably known for his cerise pink production of Marilyn Monroe.
- My grandmother purchased three bags of bulbs for planting in her front yard. Two bags of tulips and one bag of daffodils. I respected her choice. I like both flowers, but tulips more. I think it is because of their vibrant neon pink trait. As she placed the bulbs evenly into the carefully dug holes I made, I was taken back by how something so seemingly like garlic can transform into a colorful, eye-catching flower.
- On my last stroll through Union Square, I was not captivated by the people or the flowers, but by the music that roared from, coincidentally, a baby pink JBL mini portable speaker.
- I dread December and its subsequent months. Months that contain mostly gray days that hide the sun from the Earth’s surface. That means I will no longer have spurs of the moment, when I jump out of my bed from ten stories up to take a picture of the baby blue sky color penciled in with light fluffy pink. I will miss those days when the pink not only lights up the sky, but my spirit. Until spring, I wait.
- Look at a picture of the Earth from space. You may think you only see blue and green in their many variations, except you also see pink. That is because pink lakes scatter Earth. There are many in Western Australia and a notorious one in Senegal. There is also the Great Salt Lake in Utah, that is half pink and half blue. It is divided so clearly by a line so straight it appears to be photo shopped. The common cause for these occurrences is due to the high content of salt in the lakes. Scientists also attribute the cause to an algae that produces carotenoids.
- Jaipur – the pink city of India. Pink has become an integral part and token of the northern city. The pink dates back to 1876, when the Prince of Wales and Queen Victoria visited India. Because pink strongly denotes hospitality, one took it upon themselves to paint the entire city pink. Now it is written under the law that people of Jaipur must maintain the pink color in their buildings and such. This is an easy law to enforce since the stone exclusively used to construct buildings is pink.
- Pink in relation to gender. Fortunately, it is a pretty open and heavily touched upon topic as of now. Why is it we paint our baby girl’s rooms pink? Why is it we paint our baby boy’s rooms blue? Personally, that is not the big problem. The big problem is continuing to raise our children based on gender roles. Just because a girl likes pink does not mean she can not like football too. Just because a boy likes blue does not mean he can not like fashion. Raise children the same.
- At first I did not understand. What is so praised about large blocks of color painted onto a canvas? To grasp the popularity of Mark Rothko’s paintings I was encouraged to go to the Rothko Chapel in Houston. It gave a whole new meaning to the color pink.
- Nicki Minaj is known for pink. In fact, her relationship with pink is everything but subtle. In music video after music video she is adorned in pink. The color was a prominent part of her brand since the beginning. In Starships she is suited by a pink wig, a pink cheetah body suit, and neon pink bangles. More recently, she continued the theme in her The Night is Still Young music video, wearing a long, light pink bob wig, with a matching exposed bra and dress.
- A childhood classic. A world encapsulated in pink. Round, sometimes cylindrical and often circular. Hard to the touch, softer to the chew. Covered in wax or protected by a dome. Your favorite pink bubble gum will take you home.
- I recall an early morning eating Cinnamon Toast Crunch in front of the television. The Today Show was on like every morning. During a commercial break, the television illuminated in pink. It was a commercial from the American Cancer Society about Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It stood out to me even more than it did the several other times before it. I looked back, the pink ribbon was also on the box of cereal.
- When I think of pink, I think of the massive underwear company, whose brand is pounded into my mind by successful marketing. I think of a certain exclusivity. Pink is not popular but it is strong and proud. Those who like pink defend it with lots of power. Those same people are caring, warm, and sweet. Similar to the delicately majestic flamingo.
- Sunday, June 26, 2015. My 17th Also, the day the United States Supreme Court ruled that states must not deny marriage licenses to same-sex couples. The day the White House became the Pink House.
- In regards to the negativity cast by men my aunt once said “I believe in pink.”
- It’s a perfume. The target market is women. Of course, its advertisement is oversaturated in pink.
- Fun fact: In 1893 the Financial Times was first printed on light salmon pink paper to distinguish it from another newspaper – Financial News.
- Barbie pink.
- Summer in Washington is too hot and humid.
Fall is okay, but just a slow beginning to winter.
Winter is too frigid and dull. In winter there is too much white. The snow tends to fit in
with the large imposing monuments made of light beige stone, as well as the typical
overcast sky.
Spring marks the beginning of warmth and brings back color. Because of this spring is
my favorite season in Washington. Spring also brings cherry blossoms, which add pink
luminance to the subtle skyline overnight, eliminating the everlasting white of winter.
