Monoprints

For these monoprints, I initially started with using the press in order to create my prints. However, I quickly decided that while the clean and clear consistency that it easily gave was nice, I preferred to directly place the paper over the ink before using a pencil to draw on top of it – a method that I have experimented with before. I really like the textural quality of the monoprints that this method results in. At first, I tried loose sketches of figures before moving on to more pattern like drawings and scribbles. With these, I wanted to monoprints that were a little more abstract in nature, and made use of the unpredictable nature of the ink. I really liked how these turned out, especially the last two, which were made by first drawing over the paper before taking an imprint of the excess ink left with another piece of paper and creates an interesting positive/negative effect, especially when placed next to each other.

ARTIST: BRYAN WYNTER

Wynter’s work is mostly abstract and inspired from nature. I really like the abstract and loose quality of his monoprints which I felt was similar as to what I tried to achieve in my own work.
