Economics: The User’s Guide by Ha-Joon Chang and What I Talk About When I Talk About Running by Haruki Murakami inform my thinking and current practices at Lang by helping me be both logical and understood by most people, sensitive and socially strong, resilient and calm. While at Lang, I have become a part of many clubs and groups and have been able to achieve a GPA higher here than in high school, though it has been a challenge to build a solid, dependable community here.

Ha-Joon Chang discusses difficult, complex economic theories with colloquial context . This mode of explanation has helped me convey often convoluted ideas. In What I Talk About When I Talk About Running, Haruki Murakami discusses the importance of progression despite physical and mental obstacles. This has helped me expand my belief in myself and my capabilities. I have been able to apply for and find jobs and internships because of his advice. I have also encouraged myself to run every day in order to practice the philosophy in both mind and body.

In sum, both Ha-Joon Chang and Haruki Murakami explain the complex with care and ease, teaching what would take much time to learn in a few days. By implementing this practice in my life, I have chosen to participate in a complex life, one with many factors and conspicuous angles, while also maintaining  a stable life of perennial advancement, joy, love, education, risk, help, community, and safety.
