Lang Alum Jersten Seraile premieres work at United Solo Festival

Lang Alum Jersten Seraile (Liberal Arts, ’16) will premier his play, Harlem Blooms, at The United Solo Festival at Theater Row.

Synopsis :

The play is set in 1950’s Harlem on the east side in Langston Hughes’ dining room. Here you will find a world still becoming, letters and poetry, and of course Langston Hughes. What does being on the un-American Blacklist mean for an African American? Many artists lost their careers, families, and friends to McCarthyism. Some of the world’s greatest artists faced accusations of being “un-American” and placed on the Blacklist, which made other artists unwilling to associate themselves. A number of Blacklisted Artist spent at least a year in prison and paid fees amounting over $1000 (about $9,830 today).
