Iliana Cepero-Amador (Adjunct Professor of Visual Studies) curated the photo show “Cuba Is” as part of the Getty initiative Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA, a far-reaching and ambitious exploration of Latin American and Latino art in dialogue with Los Angeles. “Cuba Is” features over 120 photos that explore subjects ranging from defiant youth known as “frikis” to the hard-partying children of the 1%, the underground system of sharing digital content—“El paquete”—to Miami’s Chonga girls. The exhibition is on view at the Annenberg Space for Photography until March 2018.
