Stefania De Kennessey’s Music is Performed

Music by Contemporary Music Professor Stefania de Kenessey was performed by pianist Melody Fader in a livestreamed concert last summer.

And Stefania wrote the music for “Lead Me” as part of a virtual residency with Dance Lab New York NEXUS LAB. The dance, created by choreographer Ariel Grossman, had a virtual premiere in August and an excerpt was part of Ariel Rivka Dance’s Community Cabaret, a live online event in October. You can find out more about this piece in a short promotional video from the residency.

Stefania also collaborated with Ariel Grossman this fall on ARD’s Unorthodox. Inspired by the drive and tradition of Klezmer music, the work speaks to the juxtaposition of grungy raw realness and the simple polite version of ourselves we often portray to the world. The title is inspired by Deborah Feldman’s book (and the Netflix show on which it was based). Stefania wrote an original score for the work which had a virtual premiere at the Gershman Jewish Film Festival.
