–Documentation photos of the work in progress.

I used clays to outline first, then put some plaster papers. After that, I painted white as a based color and painted the outline of the mask with silver and black. My original plan was no background and eyes, nose, and month. But I think it is too empty, so I just decided to make this black background and features. I had very hard time to stick all the woods together and to hang the mask on the background. I put shine stuff in the background and the mask as well.

–The research question.
My question is “why is the Seer by Giorgio de Chirico an excellent example of Metaphysical art?” After researching, I knew that because it is dreamlike and uses shadow and light in a way that creates the strange effects so definitive of his abstract style. So I want to express through the mask because the mannequin is the main model in his artwork. The white and some white shine things represent light and his dreamlike. The gray and black color are for shadows. I stick many colorful eyes together for making eyes, nose, and mouth. First, it is because I want to give it more abstract effect. Then also because the shape of eyes is the circle, and its represent his never-ending life. Actually, in here the eyes are not eyes function here. These all eyes describe his same never-ending life, and he cannot escape from the same life, and it is repeated again and again, so the big circle is the world and the small black eyes are him. It is moving, so it means he tries to escape from his life, but he cannot actually. Another reason why I chose rings is that I think eyes, nose, and mouth are all related, so what he sees, what he smells, and what he eats are all about his feeling and experience. for the last, the background I created is for making it fancier a d artistic.

–My finished piece!
