Project

There are so many different ways to travel between two different points, and the time always varies. You can take different routes to the target, or on the way back. Time of day influence people’s duration of the trip differently. Some people might love to walk in the mornings so that it will take them longer. I do like to walk during the dark time, which makes my trip as short as possible. There so many factors, which can change the duration of your journey, like weather, people, places.

I started my walk after my class on Friday morning. It was 11:18 when I began to walk from the cross section of 12th street the 5th Avenue (going down.) I was moving with my average speed because I am not a speed walker. It took me about 8 minutes to get to the park, which I saw for the first time. I was surprised because I saw people standing and laying on the grass, which is not common in my country. Pop music was playing from speakers from one of the bikes spent 10 minutes in the park, making circles. I always looked at the tower in the distance.I continued my journey by taking Thompson Street and turning left on the Spring Street. It was hot, but I did not see a lot of people outside because it was still early. I saw Starbucks and decided to drink iced tea. It took me 14 minutes to get from park to the Starbucks. Next, I took Lafayette Street and went down. I saw a lot of new places since that was my first time walking there. I turned on Broom Street and saw a lot of food places. I felt an immediate change since there were a lot of people around. I saw a large crowd of people in few blocks to the left, so I decided to go there. I saw a huge sign “Welcome to little Italy” (It took me 8 minutes to get there.) I heard about this place, so I got excited that I found it by accident. However, I did not like it at all, people were too loud, talking and selling. It was nothing like Italian culture; it was too crowded and too dirty. It smelled like sweat and food at the same time, which made me dizzy. I walked through The Little Italy and turned left at the Hester St, and to my surprise end up surrounded by Chinese signs. I walked to the Hong Kong Supermarket and turned right to Elizabeth St. It’s as I teleported to another country. People spoke only Chinese, all of the stores were Chinese, all of the signs s were Chinese. I got lost in the crowd. I took Bayard St and them Mott St, where I end up my journey by taking Uber. Even though I did not walk much in the Asian quartet, I spent there almost 20 minutes. It was so different and exciting but smelled bad (like fish and trash.) I finished my walk at 12:11. I would walk this distance so much faster, but I traveled slower than usual, absorbing everything around me. So unusual and imperfect, dirty and crowded, but charming and pressing. I walked more than I wanted in the beginning because I end up in Italian and Chinese quarters. Those places made me focus more on the surroundings and people around me.
