Two Games as Influence

In order to explore and push our game ideas further, we had to see two relative games. For my team, they were chess and shogi. Two classic old games. We wanted to create a military game with figures and the board. The core mechanic is that the player moves one figure per turn. Every figure has their own path, movement, and restriction (for example pawn can never go backward.) Also, any figure and take another figure. The goal of chess is to take down opponents king. In our case, the central piece is the military base. Also, the figures can go two steps in any direction. Thy can take down only pieces which are ranked lower.  Nuclear Bomb > Air Craft > Tank > Capitan ≥ Spy  > Soldier > Base. You can capture the Nuclear Bomb with a spy like sometimes only card “2” or “6” can beat the ace. In shogi, pieces move by certain rules like in chess.  Apart from the King and the Gold General all pieces can promote. After promotion, they all move as a Gold (mostly, except Rook and Bishop.)  There is a particular zone, where pieces can promote. The three rows furthest away from a player are called the promotion zone. You can also capture or drop opponents pieces. We dd not include any of that idea in our game, except the ranking part. Both of those game have a rectangular field, and only two opponents can play. In our game, the field is a rhombus shape, and 2-4 players can play.
