Sustainable Off-Grid House

In my Individual research project, I decided to create a design and a model of the sustainable off-grid house in a 1⁄4’ scale using paper and plastic. I was inspired by architect Michael Reynolds’s works and ideas of fully sustainable and independent buildings, which will provide food, energy, and water to the people living in it. The viewers are able to observe and learn about the sustainable structure. I explained how everything in the house works, and what type of energy is needed.

The model might solve the problem with shelters around the world because they are simple to make, architects can use all kinds of cheap, recyclable, and indigenous materials in the building process, and they will provide people with water, energy, and food. The materials, which I used in the “building” are the recyclable objects like metal beans and wires. I also used wood as an indigenous material to echo Indonesian culture. In the end, the model is assembled so the viewer would understand the piece since people are familiar with the model of the building and I would try my best to create 1⁄4’ scale object and materials to emphasize the point of sustainability.
