The Cottage Collective applied for the Eugene Lang Opportunity Award to enable NYC queer/trans artists to perform and get compensation without charging for admission. This is in response to the competitive and unsupportive standards of DIY venues that underpay artists, avoid booking artists who have never performed before or who don’t have a big social media following, and that exclude acts that are outside the box.
We were able to host on average two events a month thanks to the grant – one show and one film screening – with free dinner, free admission, community closet/library, and archival of all art/performances.
