Where did you find the internship? I found the internship on The New School’s Hire New.

Would you recommend it for other Lang students? Yes, it is a great internship to gain hands-on experiences working in the music industry.

Internship Description:
As a marketing intern, I work with S.O.B.’s marketing director and team to promote & strategize marketing for upcoming events. I manage their social media accounts such as Instagram and TikTok through the creation of marketing plans and creation of marketing content. Additionally, I assist in website upkeep/design (SEO), and develop marketing ideas for upcoming events or themed parties. Promoting shows through social media & physical marketing (flyering) through school / personal networks. I have also led event planning for two events. This includes creating an event plan implementing marketing strategies, along with creating screen visuals and menu coordination.

How has this project has been impactful or transformative — for you personally or for those this work has impacted:
This internship has allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of not just the industry I want to go in, but also strengthen my understanding of what I want to pursue professionally.

What would you do differently? How would you advise a student who is going to do something similar?
Take more initiative in proposing projects and take more advantage of my opportunity to making more industry connections.

How is this experience connected to your academic work?
As a Contemporary Music major, this internship has significantly broadened my perspectives on the music industry, providing a stronger direction for my career aspirations. Interning at S.O.B.’s has allowed me to apply classroom knowledge to real-world scenarios, enhancing my understanding of potential opportunities in the industry. The hands-on experience and industry connections I have made are invaluable, offering insights that expand upon my academic work. This experience has solidified my career goals and deepened my practical understanding of the music business, making my academic studies more relevant and impactful.
