Ally Frans-Kohn (She/they), Spring 2024
Unpaid Internship Grant
Company: Triangle House Literary Magazine
Type of work: Intern
Where did you find the internship? Through a Professor at TNS.
Would you recommend it for other Lang students? Yes!
Internship Description:
I assisted in reading and sorting through queries, reading manuscripts, writing readers reports, sending pass letters and various administrative projects.
How has this project been impactful or transformative — for you personally or for those this work has impacted:
Reading my first full manuscript and writing my first
pass letter to the author allowed me to experience of
really getting in touch with an authors story and
intentions, and navigate the difficult task of writing to
the author on why the publication would be passing on their novel.
What would you do differently? How would you advise a student who is going to do something similar?
I would not do anything differently, and would advise a student doing something similar to apply to this grant as I did.
How is this experience connected to your academic work?
It gave me insight on how the publishing industry works and how to approach submitting queries and/or manuscripts of my own writing, and the duties involved with running a literary magazine.
