Level: First Year Art & Design/ ESL low-intermediate to intermediate

Language Focus: literary devices

Design Focus: storytelling techniques and mixed media explorations

Time: 2 classes of 2 hours 40 min (2h 15min activities + 25min. break/debrief)

Prep time: 2 hours

 

Lesson Description:

In this lesson students explore storytelling in one frame and a sequence of frames; in understanding various types of framing students explore how details within a frame can construct a cohesive story and ways in which rhythm, pace, and continuity can help set out the conflict, climax, and resolution of an engaging story. The teacher introduces photography/photo retouching, color theory, storyboarding, and multiple-narratives writing exercises in order to guide students in developing compelling stories and deconstructing/reimagine such stories in a collaborative exercise. Teacher introduces Adobe Photoshop editing tools.
