Constructed Environments Studio – Bridge 1

For my project I addressed the elements I was given by creating a building design. I addressed the first element of window framing by cutting out abstract forms from chipboard I saw being thrown away. The abstract forms were clean cut and very polygonal in order to resemble the window framing and the transformation depicted by the university centers exterior. The large arch coming off of the main structure was created to emphasize the polygonal shape and it gives the piece a sense of hierarchy. This arch also casts a show that allows lighting to be effective in the piece. To address lighting I used fairy lights. The wire came through the center of the structure and done so purposely to show linear lighting. The clear wire of the fairy lights serves as a guide for the eye to follow rather than being something out of place. The battery box is embedded in the base of the model. The base of the model is repurposed foam core that was being thrown away. I assembled the pieces into boxes. I added fake shrubs and people at a 1/8th scale to give the structure dimension and allow the viewer to get a sense of how big this building would be. My last element which was fire hydrants was addressed by taking the 2d symbol of a fire hydrant on a floor plan and making a 3d linear pop up. The triangles at the side of the building represents the fire hydrants.  Triangles are often used for caution signs, the shape fit well with the design.
