Tool Kit Proposal – Sustainable Systems

This building is great for its height and the way it stands , it has double height spaces without walls to help air flow through taking away the damage of lateral winds, but I really don’t like fact that this building is so tall , yet normal people can’t really afford to rent space in it . You have to be super rich to have any type of space in the building. It makes me question what we’re really building for if it’s just going to end up being empty , if anything we should be building that tall to give everyone a chance to live in the city at an affordable price . I don’t know the program of the building exactly but to me it just symbolizes how important money is .

I am proposing a tool kit to address architecture and it’s wicked problem of over building. This type of building is :

  1. Wasting expensive material if the space isn’t being used
  2. You have giant structure, yet homelessness in public school students are at an all time high, these buildings can give people in over populated affordable housing a chance to not only clear the area and reduce street pollution , but give them a chance at a better life.
  3. This building is sustainable, therefore it can support a healthier way of living if u place people in it rather than keeping them in affordable housing.

Tool kit:

  1. A physical model of the tallest building in NYC vs affordable housing complex population. (This addresses how empty the sustainable building is)
  2. Board game
  3. Brochure of sustainable materials that can be implemented in older homes. (This gives architects, urban planners and the city a guide to save money long term and promote a healthy future).
  4. Prices of condos and apartments in these luxury high rises (shock value, reinforces the fact that these buildings are empty)
