Journal Entry- week 9 – Thesis

Week 7-  artifacts

An artifact is an object made by a human being, typically an item of cultural or historical interest. An artifact is a primary source, just by observing an object we can tell a lot about a culture. Someones home is a artifact. Toking through someones home is very personal. You can see how that person lives their life, what routines they might have, their family dynamic, what they eat. A lot can be interpreted just by looking at objects.

Week 8 – annotated bibliography

An annotated bibliography is a bibliography that gives a summary of each of the entries. The purpose of annotations is to provide the reader with a summary and an evaluation of each source. This not only helps the reader but helps the writer before he or she organizes their essay or research paper. by annotating your sources it gives you a glimpse of what sources fit and what doesn’t.

week 9 – Thesis

A thesis is a statement or theory that is put forward as a premise to be maintained or proved. The word thesis has been used since 5th grade but none of my teachers ever gave a solid definition.  In order to prove your theory or thesis you must come forward with strong evidence and analysis that is logical and easy to understand. You must categorize your points and make things concise as possible. A thesis has a clear topic and a short summary of what you have to say about it. The thesis is usually found at the end of the introduction. A good thesis should be debatable, there should be multiple perspectives, it’ll make your writing effective and not boring.

Week 10: Connections

A connection is a relationship in which a person, thing, or idea is linked or associated with something else. As humans we have many connections. We are connected to other people, a country, a religion, a school and the world around us. Connections are important because they help us form our identity. My set of connections are entirely different from another person. My arrangement of connections from people to ideas allow me to be an individual. These connections allow make me unique.

week 11 – visual research

You see before you learn to speak, read or write. Visuals are the first way we learn. Everyone perceives things differently. Visuals are so important that we can use objects to reveal thing about a culture. We can use photos to give off emotion. Advertisements make people feel bad about themselves. We are selling back your self love after you buy this product. We are all subconiously enslaved to this mentality because with vision comes automatic judgement. In New York City visual culture is all around us. Ads, people , lights. Its a storm of visual research.

week 13- Outline

An outline is a general description or plan giving the essential features of something but not the detail. This is used to help guide the flow of ideas in a research paper and offer a structure. An outline can also be a line or set of lines enclosing or indicating the shape of an object in a sketch or diagram. We use this all the time in drawing and imaging. we cast an outline of a figure then add details later. This process is the same as writing a paper. We outline key ideas and add in details to support these ideas.

week 14- Reflection

In the literal sense a reflection in a mirror is your image and what you look like to the world around you. Reflect also means to think about something deeply. These days I’ve been reflecting on my college journey. I ended the first semester in a great place. As the second semester rolled around there was a shift, something that wasn’t spoken but the energy around me shifted, things became uncontrollably uncomfortable yet moments of solace were the greatest points of my life. I struggled with maintaining a job and school. I am a teacher outside of school. Weird to say from a person who just turned 19, but I teach 3D printing to a group of 16 students grades 1-5 3 times a week. That is not easy. I am not a person who yells, and kids are relentless. Also I run an animation studio with my friends outside of teaching. We are set to release our first film this summer. Fred Seibert, a staple in the animation industry is our mentor and its crazy to think we are working with the likes of an animation giant. I also make music and released an album of beats called hours. I’ve been through a lot this semester.
