Your assignment is to create a construct or vessel that has the ability to mark time. This can be done using various
senses of sight and sound. Thus, you can choose various mediums that can interact with one another to express
duration and time.
Assignment 3a:
-Decide on your medium of transfer and Vessel / Framework for carrying the medium
-Create 3 Sketch models for possibilities. These are to conceptually test your strategies and receive feedback in the
next class meeting.
Rules:
1. For your framework & vessel(s), you can only use the following methods for making:
-modules/units
-linear
-planar
-carving/subtractive
2. The medium can be refilled, but must mark the time independently from human intervention.
3. The medium must work inversely (example: it can work “upside down” or “sideways”)
4. The transfer medium and the vessel containing the transfer medium cannot touch or rest on any surface
5. No Glass can be used. Also, no electricity, batteries, or any other force other than gravity.
6. The force for transferring the medium can only be through gravity (no heat, wind, or electricity). Meaning the
construct is analog and all controls are internally embedded within the construct itself.
7. You must pick a duration of 30 seconds, 1 minute, or 2 minutes. Nothing in-between.
8. The entire construct must fit within an imaginary boundary of 24 inches x 24 inches or less.
