Bridge 3 Project: Color Divergence

BLUE-wtgtrr

Team proposal: My team decided to focus on the familial aspect of the color blue. Blue represents loyalty and we decided to apply that to our family and cultural heritage. We all wanted to focus on the same few elements- we chose to focus on the sky and the languages we speak at home. Although we have yet to decide on a proposal that feels “right” and conveys the transition well. However, we have a few ideas and we will experiment with them to see which we like the most. As of now, we will definitely continue to explore the use of more than one language per audio recording.

Poem:

The color of the sky.

The color that symbolizes the start of a new day- a second chance.

The color that reminds me it is daytime for me but nighttime for my relatives.

The color that reminds me that I am home.

The color that represents the tallit on the Israeli Flag.

The color of my father’s eyes.

The color of my eyes.

The color of my brother’s eyes.

The color that ties my family back to our roots.

The color that reminds me that winter is nearing.

The color that evokes vivid, warm memories.

The color that makes me feel as if the sun is shining on my arm.

The color that reminds me of the 16 hour flight I have to take in order to see my family.

The color that reminds me that I have made it to my second home.

I wanted to do something along the lines of free verse poetry. My team and I decided to explore slam poetry in order to transition between the different memories we all experienced. I felt as though a simple, repetitive poem would represent my cultural heritage best and felt that it reflected my personality as well. In addition, I was inspired by a song I grew up listening to called Kshe Halev Boche which means when the heart cries. It is a beautiful hebrew song that is somewhat like a prayer, it feels very soft which inspired the softness of my poem. I have yet to incorporate the song into my audio piece but will find a way to include some of the hebrew language.
