I personally wish that Robyn Caplan had better or more clearly introduced her, her background, and her interest or reason for exploring so deeply this issue of public verse provate. When she started speaking I really had no idea who she was, what she did or how it was important to her / in what sphere of her world and our worlds it affected.

She was an engaging speaker though and did have good presence in the room. However whilst I found her engaging and the topic interesting, I didn’t see how it pertained / helped us in informing our own opinions or understanding on public verse private in the larger cultural world of corporations and the wider internet. If anything the presentation confused me in that I understood the content but I didn’t understand how it could have been contextualised into our worlds. I felt like she maybe felt the same way because someone asked her at the end how we can do anything and essentially her answer was ‘you can’t’.

If she had made her self for relatable initially or told us upfront how this was important / necessary or valid then maybe I could have had an easier time interpreting her lecture.

In saying that I did find it interesting, I just wish she had been more reflective on the sitiation we were in rather than the larger context of public and private in a sphere we aren’t connected in or associated with.
