The zine FaceTime looks at the concept of identity and it’s relation to social media and my iPhone by utilizing seven very meaningful images that I have taken over the past six years that have consistently survived my editing process every time I upload. I then explored meaningful text from my notes app on my iPhone, text messages, and created my own intuitive statements to create a narrative to show how my identity has evolved and the challenges and questions that I still face in trying to understand myself. The photographs and writing were organized in chronological order in the zine with the last word of the back cover reading “Guide Me.” The purpose of this statement is to ask the reader from what they have gathered from the zine how would they direct me on my journey of self-discovery. Overall I learned the challenges I have in the process of printing in regards getting exact dimensions correct, finding ideal paperweight for my projects, and the differences in inkjet and laser printing.

The short narrative film prompt was to explore how one’s identity and technology are interconnected. I examined the bleak expirence of pulling all-nighters as a student, staring at a screen for hours at end and restlessly falling in and out sleep as city goers rise to begin there day at 5 am. I examined these themes alongside the Gil Scott Heron song “Me And The Devil“, its dark quality created the weary and rough atmosphere I was looking for. In retrospect, I wish I rented a high-quality camera from the cage to shoot my short video and allotted more to finding clips of the city early in the morning that captured the feelings of despair, hopelessness, and loneliness I wanted to find.
