SPACE/MATERIALITY: COMMUNITY

Project II

Armor Garment and Grafting Line,Module and Uncommon Object

Step 1: Experiment With Different Materials

I tried combining different materials together. They are mostly metals and with diverse shapes and textures. In addition, I used materials such as: wire, wood blocks, buttons, buckles, rings, and fabric. Since my vegetable is Fennel. I decided to use the color of the fennel which is green.

Step 2: Process Work (Tryout & Failure)

I went through some failures when trying out numerous combinations. Most of them were due to low completeness when put all together. The composition of them was too simple and they did not go along with each other when I put them altogether or paired them up. I decided to leave them aside and try out more to create novel ones. For example the first one  I was trying to apply color on it and make it connect to the bracelet but when it comes out it’s not matching

Step 3: Combining Materials  & Final Look in Detail

I put together the results of successful combinations, so they can rather look like one collection composed of different jewelries: for example, necklace with ear cuffs, rings with bracelet, and so on. I connected and added other pieces to one work, to add more flowing impression. In addition to that, I added some color compositions so the materials can stand out. Most of the methods I used are braiding and knotting, minimizing the usage of adhesives.

                                                                              Fitting on people (Final looks-Bracelet)

My inspiration is from chinese traditional accessories from Tang Dynasty.I chose bamboo shaped buttons as main part of the jewelry.I used gold and black wire to create rings by connecting them to buttons.I also used brown with black color to give contrast to the color of bamboo. I created another set of rings for smaller knuckles to make them corresponding to the bracelet.

Fitting on people (Final looks-Necklace & Ear Cuffs)

This piece is very useful in that its purpose can be diverse. It can be necklace when it is simply hung on shoulders around neck. When winded around neck, it is like a scarf. On the other hand it can be hung on the ears to serve as ear cuffs. Moreover it also can be both necklace and ear cuffs at the same time. Its length can be adjusted handy.
