Drawing/Imaging: Language Final Project: Cultural Issue

I tried to come up with as many ideas as possible and tried out every option and idea that came up to my mind, so that I can have the best result. With about three try-outs, I came up with an idea that could satisfy what I wanted to deal with the most.

 

At first, I planned to deal with “drug” as my topic. More specifically, I wanted to relate drugs to their influence and further to China’s policies regarding drugs. However, after drawing a rough sketch, I thought that I would actually want to draw about “global warming” instead.

So I tried a rough sketch with a quite solid overall idea in my mind. However, after talking to my professor, I had a feeling that the first idea (which was “drugs) was indeed a better option. After wavering between two topics, I finally could make up my mind on a topic. Not only that, I came up with more novel idea with concrete plan with more certainty than before.

The third choice was made on the topic “drugs”, and I related to a concept that drugs are as addictive as gambling. I decided to combine some factors that symbolize gambling, with drugs and elements that represent effects of drug addiction. I also homaged the well-known painting “The Last Supper”, to mix with the idea of drugs being dishes on the table. Then, I sketched overall idea with arrangement of elements.

 

I kept changing the work little by little to improve the overall look and quality of the work.
