This advertisement is from Tom Ford.
This ad is also known to people for its sexist context it holds within it.
From this advertisement, we can feel somewhat sexual and gender biased impression.
First of all, the things man and woman are doing in this ad are completely different tasks. It contains very traditional and very gender-normative view on roles of male and female. The woman is ironing the man’s pants while he is standing there reading his newspapers, waiting for his pants to be ironed. This makes the viewers think that in the image, woman is “serving” the man while the man “gets served” by her.
Second, the woman is facing her whole face and body towards the man, with some erotic face on, while the man merely has his eyes on the newspaper his holding. This makes people think “generally” women are always the ones who try to attract men and men would always be indifferent towards them.
Lastly, but most obviously, the woman is NAKED while the man is wearing an ironic outfit of half-glasses-and-extremely-formal-tuxes-and-half-naked-legs-with-calf-high-socks-on. This is most likely to be sexually orienting male and female, while amplifying the heavily biased and generalized view on unrealistic gender roles.
This advertisement is also misrepresenting the reality in that it shows white good-looking female and male heterosexual couple in a household who are devoted to each of their roles.
