- What themes emerged in your dress practice log?
There were several themes that emerged in my dress practice log. One major theme was “how individuals relate themselves and their daily lives to clothing”. Throughout the interview, the idea I got up with the most was that, based on different things that are even trivial, people could address various views on fashion.
- What did you notice about daily dress practice that you hadn’t noticed before?
I think what I noticed from the practice is the impact of different backgrounds on individuals’ styles. Not only cultural and social surroundings have effects on individuals’ life style and fashion, but also do the things like educational background and personal experiences throughout life.
- How did the dress practice log impact your understanding of the relationship between clothing and the body?
The part that people choose clothes based on variety of aspects was what made me think the most about the relationship between clothing and the body. For instance, my interview subject insisted that she chooses clothes to wear based on “performity” and “applicability”. But in my case, the aspect that I consider the most when choosing clothes is the aestheticity. What differs between us is that she takes garments as more of flexible and life-enhancing site of body while I take them as more like representing and beauty-expressive site of the body.
