On Thursday, November 10, Eugene Lang welcomes writers Mitchell Jackson and Wendy Walters, contributors to the new collection The Fire This Time: A New Generation Speaks about Race, to take part in a pubic conversation about the book with its in-house editor, Kathy Belden, and a member of the First-Year Writing faculty, Zoe Mungin. The discussion will highlight the writing, editing, and now the teaching of this profound collection of voices. The event will be moderated by the director of First-Year Writing, Scott Korb.

The event begins at 6:30, and we’ll be assembled at 66 West 12th Street, room 404.

The essays in The Fire This Time, which is a contemporary response to Baldwin’s masterpiece The Fire Next Time, were brought together by National Book Award-winning novelist Jesmyn Ward, who introduces the book with these words:

If I were smarter, perhaps I wouldn’t say this, but I attest to this because I feel it: all these essays give me hope. I believe there is power in words, power in asserting our existence, our experience, our lives, through words. That sharing our stories confirms our humanity.

Let’s come together in community to celebrate writers and editors and teachers. There’s power in words. There’s hope.
