Gustav Klimt “Hope II” 1907-1908

-This artist inspires a lot of my personal works and view I have on the world, so naturally, some part of me was inspired by Klimt’s works and I somewhat subconsciously incorporated the energy he puts in his pairings into my final perspective piece.

Henri Matisse “Dance” 1901

Inspired by this piece due to the flow of movement and activity between the figures and the background, although it is more of a shallow piece and not super related to the whole “perspective” idea I am heavily influenced by this painting and incorporated aspects of it into my final.

Charles White “Frederick Douglass Lives Again (The Ghost of Frederick Douglass)” 1949

I enjoy the multiple perspectives of this piece because it isn’t so linear. It actually shows multiple legitimate perspectives of different people in this image which creates a narrative. A narrative is important to portray in a piece because it gives the viewer more information.

TIMES SQ PHOTOS

-I personally find that images of people instead of buildings can be more compelling and intriguing. This is true to be because there are always different people circulating in Times Sq, and you always see something new within the overflow of people. The buildings remain the same and can sometimes seem more like a dull background. It is the people that make up Times Sq.

PERSPECTIVE ANALYSIS

Originally had difficulty with this portion because I was unsure how to use the software and had troubling remembering the logic that had to do with perspectives. When I understood, I picked out photographs that detected 1,2, and 3 perspectives so I could align them and show the viewer the vanishing point, where it is, and how to see it.

3 IDEAS

I wanted to incorporate my own personal artistic style into this, but I knew it was going to be difficult since I don’t have to usually pay attention to other aspects of my illustrations, like perspective backgrounds. I found that this exercise though helped me challenge myself in terms of learning how to adapt to these kinds of assignments.

TIMES SQ SKETCH

-Previously added colour to it but that wasn’t the right way to do the assignment. Redid it and finished with this final sketch. Supposed to depict ribbons flying through Times Square, movement warping the shapes of the buildings and cars. I payed close attention to detail and shaded certain parts of the ribbon to exhibit more definition, but not too much shading because it would take away from the final work.

ILLUSTRATOR PRACTICE IMAGES

Early stages of practicing the software and experimenting with what colours and gradients work best with my vision, I went with the second option because I felt like it fit my idea better.

FINAL (PHOTOSHOP)

-My final consists of incorporating my personal drawings from my portfolio into this piece. Originally I wanted to do that and somewhat draw them into the first line drawing piece. I wasn’t very happy with them because it didn’t show the full extent of my ability. I decided to use my current works in this piece to show the viewer how I envision the world around me, different versions of myself everywhere.
