Partner project with Matthias, must center around a goal of activism
- We wanted to tackle the assignment with the idea of activism as a core, to find a topic we were passionate about and that also was local to us, something we witnessed and wished to be able to bring more attention and awareness to. We wanted something that felt personal in a way that we both understood and could learn more about together.
- Being in New York City, it’s inevitable to notice the unhoused population, so often neglected and left with no shelter but cardboard over their heads. We thought it was necessary to open a discourse on homelessness in NYC through our art, which is why we chose it as our shared theme.
The craft chosen for me by Matthias:
- The medium chosen for me is that of architectural models, made out of balsa wood. I’ll employ it to find ways into forming a conversation around the issue of homelessness. It’s a very interesting medium to use to address homelessness as how it’s traditionally used to create models of houses/places people live in, and unhoused people do not have a home, just wherever in the world they are living. It’s going to be a challenge to use this medium, but I believe that it’s going to be very impactful after it’s done.
