Reflection:
The “wooden jewelry/accessory” project was very enjoyable for me. In a separate class earlier in the week, I worked on making a wooden bed, so I felt warmed up to working with wood and using small pieces. I wanted to make a piece of jewelry that I would be able to wear in my daily life instead of a statement piece that would end up sitting in my dresser for months, so I chose to make small envelopes with hearts. These were designed as matching necklaces for my long-distance girlfriend and I, symbolizing (this will be extremely cheesy) our love spanning the distance between us. The necklaces used four pieces of wood in all, and I used the same process on both. I used the wood shop for the first time which was very fun, and experimented with using a chisel, using an eyeshadow and water mixture as wood stain, and jewelry-making. For photographing it, I showed the pieces in front of letters my girlfriend sent me, tying in all elements I was portraying in my piece. In all, it was a time consuming yet very rewarding project i really enjoyed.
