Brainstorming Stage:
Proposals:
For our first proposal, we plan on creating statues of fruit that we will place in an area that lacks happiness, such as Wall Street. We considered the phrase, it’s in the little things, which we took to mean that it’s the little things that will make someone’s day. We want to add pops of color and beauty to a place where people are likely to have little of that; making their day with something as little (or as big) as pieces of fruit.
For our second proposal, we want to focus on nature and use the changing foliage around New York City to create sculptures in parks that resonate with others. We want to stick in the same realm as this and create sculptures of things that make others happy such as dogs and much more with leaves. Similar to our first idea, this project would instead focus on nature and the fleeting feeling of growth.
In-Progress Work:
We decided to create a sculpture of fruit instead of something focusing on the foliage in the area. With guidance from our professor, we decided on selecting a singular fruit to create as a group, instead of four that would be placed together. After some discussion, we decided to create a lemon: a fruit that would be easily recognizable but random enough to spark confusion and joy.

Artist Statement:
My group created a giant lemon made out of found objects for the ‘found object site specific installation’ project. After hearing the prompt, we were initially unsure how to create something both meaningful and artistic. With a very open-ended prompt such as this, I often struggle to specify my goals within the message of the piece.
