Drawing Through Making Final

Concept:

CONCEPT (of your choosing)

my concept is a ceiling mobile that will be used to decorate my new apartment. I am currently apartment hunting with my best friends to find a place to live for our sophomore year of college. The places that we can afford in Manhattan have been pretty dark with a lack of natural light, so I want to make something that will reflect the light in a beautiful way and add decoration so that I will be excited to move in. I also want this to be a gift to my roommates.
PROCEDURE (how will you go about “making” your final project? Plan out your process.)

i will go about making my final project by using the laser lab to cut out the pieces of the mobile that hang below, made out of cast acrylic sheets (plexiglass). They will be made out of probably two colors, depending on the exact design I end up choosing after discussing with my professor and classmates.
IMAGE DEPICTION (what story will you tell or object will you make?)

the story that my object will tell will either be a reference to one of my favorite religious/mythological stories, the snake that tricks Eve in the garden of Eden to eat the apple, making little apples hang off of a snake that wraps around itself.
My other option is to have a running horse/flying bird hanging from the mobile, inspiring movement and joy when it flies in the wind.

Process:

I had a fun time creating this project, though I had issues along the way with the mobile production itself. It was a really great process creating the designs of the horses and making them run in the air. The mobile was hard to do because it had to be extremely exact in its measurements, which I haven’t done in a while. I prefer handmade-looking art, so it comes unnaturally to include exactness in my pieces. Despite this, I worked through issues that I had with it being unable to hang parallel with the ground. Instead of parallel, I put them at an angle so they interacted next to each other and added a fun almost modernist aspect.
