Printmaking Project

For this project, we have been asked to create two prints representing myths and legends from ancient Greece and Native American tribes. I read myths from each group and decided to depict the myth of Calypso from Greece and Cochiti’s legend of the Coyote that Spills the Stars.

These are my in-progress images for the Calypso print. I depicted her watching her lovers leave her on her island prison. Her dress is representative of waves because she is trapped on an island and the ocean is metaphorical for her.
These are the in-progress images for the Coyote Spilling the Stars print. I depicted one of the humans picking up the stars to put it in the sky before the coyote got to it and disrupted the system.

Overall, I had a really fun time with this project. I got to a new method of art-making that I’ve always wanted to try while learning about myths and legends. I’m really happy with how the pieces turned out and I would love to try more printmaking in the future!
