Time: Journal entry-Karen Azoulay

Time Reflection

It was good to hear Karen Azoulay to have a speak in Time class. Karen Azoulay is an interdisciplinary artist whose work was intersected of performance, sculpture, and photography. Karen Azoulay’s work contained the earth elements like fire, water, flower, and revealed the female form. In Time class, Karen Azoulay showed a lot of her work, such as text by Glenn Ligon, The Astronomer’s Mime, Pigment Prints, Floral Dictionary, and Eating the Flowers…… All of her work is newfangled. She combined different elements to create a different but interesting art piece. In her work “The Astronomer’s Mime”, she used photographs of hands that hold a candle as her elements to create a video clip. In”The Astronomer’s Mime”, it had a plain black background, and every hands were holding a lighted candle. Each hand was put into the place where stars at and every hands were carefully pointed to the astrological signs. And Karen Azoulay made each photo into a motion graph which the candles got sparkling like the stars in the night sky.

Karen Azoulay was an interdisciplinary artist, most of my work begins with an ephemeral moment. I really enjoy her art work, and her art work gave a new definition of how a video or an art piece can be.
