“Hey, do you think if Mrs. Xu’s going to buy us ice-cream again today?”
I asked my friend with my eyes on Mrs. Xu, an old lady who sat among the “retired-women squad” near the front door of our neighborhood. My friend stopped her drawing process, put down her chalk on the ground and whipped out the sweat from her forehead with her arm.
The sun dragged my shadow so long that it hovered above my “art works” and stretched far away. The old ladies would gossip and laugh. They were so loud that I could barely hear the sound from the street. I frequently looked at the front door, expecting to see my mom. She usually come home with snacks on her hand, and only when I had snacks in my hand, my friend’s dog would listen to my commands instead of hers.

Those are pieces of my memory: when I was still a kid, drawing on the ground with my friend in a summer afternoon…… Inspired by the memory, I created a collection of postcards.
Each of the post card includes a quote and an element that are from my memory.
About My Post Card:
- I chose to use black background because it represents drawing with chalk when I was young in my memory.
- I used the cutting paper technique with colorful and delight colors to represent how vivid the memory is to me, and how I can see my memory through the post cart.
- I also wanted to create a clash of reality and memory. Everything that is still here is represented by drawing and the memory parts are more like a illusion, represented by color and layers.
