During class, while talking with Elina, she showed me her avatar object in pictures.

To be honest, I can feel the camera is a great representation of Elina since the moment I saw the pictures. Elina looks quite quiet to me, and travelling around with a camera on her neck seems to fit her perfectly. The camera is entirely black and simple, and to some extends, it reminds me of Elina’s dressing style. She usually dresses simple and does not try to catch too many attentions, but if you take a closer look to it, it’s delicate with her own style in it. Just by examining the pictures of the camera, I can somehow imagine the reason Elena chose this camera as her avatar, which is a great choice.

With those thoughts in mind, I started to ask Elina questions about her avatar. This camera has been with her ever since she was in China, and followed her all the way to New York City. The camera is specifically important to her because of an important experience — The graduation video she made when she was in China. Her camera is filled with pictures of her memories, the people she loved, places she has been to and views she has seen. I can see the her expression while looking as the pictures she took in the past, her face is filled with joy and yearning, and her whole person seems to shine. I can tell how important those memories are to her, and how this camera captured all her treasures and preserve them into forever.

She showed me some pictures she took, which are some of the pictures that she like the most.

Even though I cannot fully understand all the pictures, I am getting a deeper understanding of Elina. It’s like an overlap of time and space, as if I’m standing at where Elina stood, looking at what Elina saw from her perspective. I get to know a small part of Elina’s way of viewing the world. Those are her ways of thinking, her ways of feeling and her ways of living. Through this camera, I see Elina……
