John Zorn’s “Khebar” is capable of touching people on many levels. Growing up in the arts and pursuing a dance major in high school, improvisation is something that has always been familiar to me, while remaining foreign because of its dynamic. Without bonding and learning about each individual you are working with, improvisation is unobtainable. In John Zorn’s piece, it is clear that all of the musicians have a knowledge and understanding of how to enhance a piece with improvisation through practice. Although it is different and a risk every time, it is imperative that one has a solid understanding of how to make the unknown appear known.
