The Headpiece As Social Statement

Social Commentary: Rape
Materials: Net, natural flowers, black acrylic paint, thread and Buckram

My assignment had two layers. The first layer was a net veil which had stitched flowers covering the eyes. The flowers are suppose to represent the purity of women and the beauty is suppose to show how pretentious everything looks from outside. When you pick up the veil, you see a layer of buckram fabric that was moulded in the form of an anonymous face and painted black which is suppose to represent the dark side (violence and fear) that a woman goes through when she is raped. It also shows the embarrassment that a girl goes through and how she is looked down upon by the society and is blamed even when its not her fault.
