ASSIGNMENT #6- Straws Polyhedrons

ASSIGNMENT #6- Straws Polyhedrons

For the assignment we were asked to construct two 3D polyhedrons out of straws without using tape or glue.

For my polyhedrons I created a cube and a tetrahedron from straws and wire. First, for the tetrahedron I constructed 4 equal triangles out of straws by inserting each end of the straws into the other. I then attached all of the straws together using the wire to create the final 3D shape. I did the same thing for the cube, constructing 6 squares and then connecting them into a 3D cube with wire.

After creating the two separate polyhedrons, I attached them together with wire to create a hanging mobile decoration. Below they are photographed hanging from different angles from the ceiling.

Overall, I found this assignment pretty simple. It was fun to be able to fashion the 3D shapes and think of a way to make them come together to create an interesting arrangement. Also, by figuring out how to create the shapes out of the straws I was able to see what materials would work best to create shapes like these and how you could possibly create structures out of polyhedrons or a combination of 3D shapes.
