Artist Statement:

Final project is collaborated with Eddie Kim. It is a multimedia wall-size piece, which is tangible to the viewers. Inspired by vibrant colors and tangled surface, we want to make a piece that is personal to our observations, experiences, and emotions- and expose it to the viewers. Inspired by the material, we want to explore the human psychological connections through this piece.

Using fabrics and yarns to manipulate abstract shapes and structures, we want to use fabrics as brush strokes to express emotions and feelings. We use sewing machine to play with different fabric manipulations and hand knitting techniques to create different textured swatches. Moreover, materials such as spray paint is incorporated with the objects that we personally relates to. For instance, physical objects and crafts that we own or made. On top of those, playful colors will be painted or sprayed.

The base of the piece is a blanket, which is normally used for human body while sleeping. Because human were born in the mother uterus, we have instincts to keep ourself warm and cover ourselves as protection. Furthermore, human need blankets to sleep because another simple psychological reasons. Parents put blankets on baby when they were sleep, therefore, it is conditioned throughout human early years to associate blankets with bedtime. This piece is a physical form of our personality and our personal connections with blankets.
