Time: Frame Final

Overview

For this project, I will be focusing on the idea of doomsday, more specifically on the idea of when you finally feel comfortable, but something unexpected happens, causing a deep spiral within the character. I will be taking an episode of Black Mirror, but manipulating it in a more artistic sense. I really want to depict the chaos emitted in the episode, and to make it visually different from the episode. My intention is to discuss the rapid increase of dependence on technology and whether it would become more helpful or harmful. I would display this by using alot of techonology themes within the short film and showcasing the positives of using technology and the negative aspects of creating a dependency on technology. Will it cause a divide amongst the human race, or will there by a way to persuade everyone to join the progression of a tech future? The inspiration for this short film stems from Black Mirror, the Twilight Zone, and the black and white film shown in class. I am thinking of the specific episode called Arkangel in the Netflix series, Black Mirror. The storyline is that a mom who almost lost her child at birth becomes a helicopter mother and decides to turn to techonology to help keep a closer eye on her child. The mother is introduced to Arkangel, a monitor that helps monitor what she is seeing, her health, and can censor anything that would heighten her blood pressure to keep her safe from the dangers of the world. The monitor showed a positive side of using technology by showing that the mother’s grandpa had a heart attack and the mother was able to save him before he passed away. However, the monitor showed a negative side that showed the daughter of the mother turning into a curious girl, and getting into trouble because she was not exposed to these sort of things growing up. At the end of the show, she almost kills her mother because the daughter was tired of being constantly smothered by her mother, destroys the monitor, and impulsively runs away to create a new and unmonitored life for herself. I am unsure of exactly I want to do with the film itself, but I like the idea of allowing my artistic sense to be playful and try to see what I come up with. My intention so far is to create a black and white film using other films to try to create a flowing movie. I was inspired by Twilight Zone and the because I find beauty in black and white films. The simplicity of the nature of black and white films, but also finding it somewhat haunting. I want to use double screens or putting multiple screens into one solid picture. I want to execute this in an interesting way where I would want the audience to watch it over to catch things they did not seem to catch in the beginning. For this project, I hope my audience would become slightly confused, but also seduced to the beauty of black and white short films.
