For this project, Tina and I went to the New Museum and visited Cheryl Donegan’s exhibit. We noticed that the exhibit was very interactive.  For example, viewers had to put on headphones at many stations, and were invited to scan clothing items from eBay as part of the art piece. There was also a yellow raincoat which had projected video on its back, and we had to move to the back of raincoat in order to fully engage with it.

Donegan’s works involve the systems of feminism, technology, fashion, and consumerism(she hates shopping but likes to make things for others to shop for). A strategy that Donegan implements into her artworks is the use of technology from projectors, television screens, scanners, to instagram posts showing how many “likes” she received.

Donegan uses fashion, technology, and interaction to show her dislike of consumerism. We wanted our system map to reflect her emphasis on interaction and consumerism, and decided to base our map off of the board game Monopoly since it is also very interactive and involves spending. Our “Donopoly” map consists of pictures we captured during our visit, deliberately placed as accurately as possible. The red standing figure represents the audience who can engage and walk around the exhibit. We changed the old man on top of the Monopoly logo to a four leaf clover to reference Donegan’s “Kiss My Royal Irish Ass.”
