B3 (2) Performance

My friend invited me to her old school to see a musical that was performed by high school students. The performance was called the ‘Runaways’ presented by the Stuyvesant High School students. It was about teenagers who have suffered from any form of sexual violence, child abuse, drug addiction and more. All stories that were performed were based on true interviews. Almost every student told a real story that was extremely devastating and powerful at the same time. Their acting and singing skills were surprisingly skilled and the whole show was well prepared and organised. One of the stories that really touched my heart was when a girl was talking about how every time she goes back home and her parents would never acknowledge her. Every time they would be watching TV and one time when the little girl got back from school, she stood in front of the TV and screamed at them to get their attention. They finally noticed her. Her father told her she needs a bath. The next she knows was her father grabbed her and threw her in the bath tub while her mother was boiling water in the kitchen. Her father was tearing her clothes off her and pushed her into the bathtub. Her mother came and poured the scorching hot water all over her and told her that she needed a bath. The acting was so intensive and real, for a moment I thought I was the little girl. This whole show was extremely successful and inspiring. The message behind their performance is speechless and truly admirable. I am glad that I got the chance to see them.
