Bridge 3 project created fictional artist using inspiration from a real artist that we visited at one of the galleries. The project is constructed by research of the real artist, invention of the fake artist, and the final presentation. In order to finish this project, my team and I had to possess the skill of thinking creatively and working collaboratively. The competence of writing was also focused by this project, specifically the type of writings that we as future designers/artists might encountered in business. I found the writing part most challenging aspect of Bridge 3, because I had to invent surreal context but still remain the structure of the writing in the convention of the text type – biography or press release. The most interesting part was to create our own work for the invented artist. As after everything was prepared for the fake artist, I kind of felt like this person became real. It was almost to weird to resist the feeling.
Bridge 4 project, different from Bridge 3, focused on the skill of building imagination out of reality and mainly required individual work on artist research. The goal was to write a fictional journal that would fit in the context of the artist but also incorporated our own thinking. The most challenging aspect of Bridge 4 I found was the narrowing down of the timeline that I want to do for my artist – Keith Haring. As one of the requirement for the project was to include artwork from the artist, I need to find a time period that had sufficient documentation of Haring’s work. So my first idea of doing a collage or sketchbook from his childhood did not work because there wasn’t any documentation of his childhood work. However, the most interesting part came out to be the making of the journal, when I imagined myself to be Haring, talked like him, and eventually made the collection of junk like him, I actually feel like I am more confident making art. And I belief that is the best outcome Bridge 4 has brought me. Artist Journal Draft
