Chapter II emphasizes that as more regions are being urbanized, the activity of the city residents can have a greater impact on climate change as well as the city having a greater impact on the people. Therefore, it is important for the cities to learn the dangers of climate change and adapt ways to face and possibly alleviate the inevitable consequences together. The text highlights the four main risks of climate change which include increased frequency in heat waves, increased frequency in heavy precipitation, increased intensity of drought, and increased activity of tropical storm.
The dangers of climate change are often neglected because people shift the responsible for these causes and effects of climate change to others, especially to the future generation. People don’t really think the possible risks of climate change will affect the near future. When in reality, people need and must start taking responsible and take immediate actions to prevent the dangers of climate change. When people do think about climate change, they only focus on ways to prevent climate change or the consequences of it. However, the need to learn ways to adapt climate change is just important as reducing the dangers of it. Keeping a good balance between adaptation and mitigation is important.
