Cross Sectional Lecture Assignment Gary Leib

Slug Life - Sophie Koko Gate

Slug Life – Sophie Koko Gate

Through this lecture, I was introduced to many animation illustrators, including Big Plymton, Sally Crikshank, Peter Millard, etc. Personally, the most eye-catching animation was “Slug Life-Trailer” illustrated by Sophie Koko Gate. The animation is immense with a bit of a beautiful yet eerie mood. Her uniquely drawn characters are flexible and flowy with their shapes moving rather like liquid sometimes to fulfill the dreamy mood. The slow voice that was overplayed also adds to the dreamy feeling. I really liked her unique dreamy style and the color palette she used so I took a look at more of her works. I saw that she collaborated with lots of brands and has similar yet different styles to accompany the different moods of the brands. However, they all have the flowy and dreamy movements, which I liked. Studying her animations,  I want to create an animation that has character movements like liquids to evoke dreaminess. I wouldn’t rather use this technique in my final animation though considering the far I’ve already come in the process, but I would definitely want to try doing in the future(maybe on my personal time in the summer). It would be a challenge, because I’ve never really tried doing.
