For this assignment, we were given the challenge of being able to do anything we liked. As you will see below in my sketches from my book, I had jotted down a few different ideas and was fairly confident in creating a deck of cards. However, as you can now see that idea did not follow through, although I have saved the idea for a future project. Instead, I have updated and taken the Mario kart characters on a shopping trip in Paris, giving them brand new fits and styles. Quite different from the traditional clothing they are seen in throughout the games. I wanted to make something light and fun for this project; that’s why I liked this idea so much.

I knew that it would take some time to redo each character. However, I did not expect it to take as long is it did. All the multiple layers and details that had to go into each part was quite time-consuming. For it started with a roughly sketched outline, followed by the skin tones, facial expressions, hair, eyes, facial details like that. Then it moved onto the clothes and the styling, which required some time to plan out and design the colours, brands and overall flow of the outfit. Then it was the logos and making sure that they look as close to the originals as possible. Once I had the clothing base, I then did shoes/ accessories. After I had completed these, I went over and added a slight shadow to any part where I would imagine the light hitting/fading away, forming a shadow. I did this to try and give the characters a less 2D appearance.

In the end, I am quite happy with my overall outcome and seeing all my classmates reactions towards them which made it all worth it especially when they were all asking for copies and for them to be printed into jumpers.
