The Assignment:

For myself, this assignment was definitely my weakest one that I have done in terms of the final outcome. I believe that the concept behind it and the direction that we were trying to go was very good however in terms of the final piece I would have liked to have added more wood and have the actual base out of wood. However, I still like what we created and think that it is very cool.

the process of making this piece did take quite some time. it started off with Noga and I made a sketch and a plan for our ideas. once we did this we did some research, this was quite possibly the worst part, yet best. learning more about our concept was very important but very scary. we watched a documentary and was able to truly understand what it id like for people to experience sleep paralysis. after this, we gathered all of our notes and focused on the main themes that kept on coming up.

we had drawn a sketch which we liked and then set off to gather the materials. working with wood was hard. had it have been any other object I reckon it would have been much easier. For us to incorporate the wood the best way was for us to thread it. yes, I had to sew wood together. how? well by using a saw I had cut multiple different woodblocks, sanded them and then drilled two holes at each end. once all of the pieces were completed I then treaded up a needed with some elastic and started to join the pieces together to make one long wooden snake. while I was doing this Noga was sewing the mesh lace onto the hat. once I had finally completed the wood we then wrapped it around the top of the hat and sewed it in place.

for our presentation, we really wanted to try and offer a whole experience. so we installed it by a hanging thread so that way people could walk in and out of it. while it was hanging we had also projects tv static and had the sounds of bees buzzing.
