I particularly liked this audio documentary because I think it is very well executed and offers a cool way of looking at the world. Combining the technology of Google Maps with sound bites, it creates a “new map” of sorts that allows the viewer to immerse themselves in the sound of a certain place rather than just viewing it from above. Although it’s not a traditional “documentary,” with interviews or talking, it does exactly what a documentary should – show you something new about the world. I think this audio doc also acts well as both a cool interactive art piece as well as a functional map tool, something that is unusual for something of this medium. The use of background sounds and how well they work in this shows how important even the subtlest of noises will be in our own final doc.
