For the remake, we interpreted Van Gogh’s The Starry Night as a Japanese manga. As The Starry Night has influences from Hokusai’s The Great Wave Off Kanagawa, we wanted to do the opposite of where the influences came from.
Furthermore, we also wanted to convey the feelings that Van Gogh might’ve felt during his time in the mental asylum.
As there was also a window in Van Gogh’s mental asylum room, we incorporated a window into the manga; however, the window will be cut out, and as the storyline progresses, the window cut out will expand in size until The Starry Night painting is revealed fully on the last page.
