“Frames of Reference” by John McPhee

“Frames of Reference” by John McPhee

This reading by John McPhee was using examples to explain the skills of writing. IN the article we could see some dos and don’ts for writer should be considering while writing.

Writers should think about how well that your readers could understand you. You need be very careful of using names, terms that uses to describe. He gave the example about describing someone like Tom Cruise, if your reader doesn’t know about Tom Cruise then your writing would be fail because people could not understand you. So thinking about how your reader would be familiar with the word you choose is very important. Young writer should try to write for the ages, don’t assume that everyone understand what you are talking about. Even though to have fun in writing is important but writers should really be thinking that how to make everyone understand your writing .

I think the article is helpful for writers to think while they are writing, because sometimes we just throw out all the ideas and words to our writing or trying to showing off our vocabulary but we did not consider about how the readers feel while they are reading it. After reading this I knew that how important is the world choice could be for a writing and we should not borrowing vividness from famous name. Every writers should consider readers in different ages can understand you.
